Mom

Parenthood

You wait until you are “ready”.

You wait until you hear the first heartbeat.

You wait until they are born.

You wait for them to walk and talk and use the potty.

You wait to see their face on Christmas morning and the first day of school.

Then they grow up.

And you wait for them to get married.

To have babies.

To celebrate the good news.

And to help them mourn the bad.

But you sit or pace and listen for the door to open or the phone to ring.

For all the the moments worth waiting for.
